History

As a group of concerned citizens, we came together to intervene and defend our country’s economy. In 2013, we led our first battle to safeguard the general cargo activity of Beirut Port Basin #4, working hard to successfully stop its filling. By fighting for the continuity of the business activities of many small enterprises, our victory helped preserve Lebanon’s economy and inspired us to grow. In 2016, we came together again and managed to retire a project that would have expelled the Lebanese Armed Forces from their pivotal naval base situated at Beirut Port Basin #1.

In 2018, to protect national ecosystems, we took another successful stand in the heart of Mount Lebanon aiding in aborting the establishment of a harmful incinerator that was to be executed in a protected natural reserve. By the end of the year, our vision of CIL had become clear and we became a registered movement. Our doors are open for those who want to join our efforts and make a lasting positive change.
